How to Care for Your Hat
Your TROVADOR rides with you through life’s rainy and sunny days. Treated well, it holds its shape and character for decades.
Handling
Always handle your hat by the crown, never the brim. For felt hats, lift with one hand on the crown. For straw hats, use both hands on opposite sides of the crown so you don’t pinch or weaken the material in one spot.
Handle a cowboy hat’s brim gently, unless you’re intentionally reshaping it. Keep the hat away from smoke and anything that can transfer onto felt, and avoid full submersion in water.

Storage
Store your hat on a wall hook, a hat stand, or flat against the wall as art. Flat-brim hats can rest flush against the wall or on their brim. Store cowboy hats upside down, resting on the crown, so the brim stays free-floating and keeps its shape.
Don’t stack hats when traveling — wear it on the plane if you can. If you pack it, expect to reshape it after. For long-term protection, a hardshell TROVADOR case is ideal.
Cleaning
Use a horsehair brush to remove dust and dirt. Always brush a completely dry hat — never apply moisture to a dirty one. Brush in a counterclockwise circular motion to lift out granules of dirt.
If your hat gets wet, shake off the excess and let it air dry naturally, away from heat and direct sunlight. Beaver felt is naturally water-resistant to light rain and drizzle.
Avoid extreme heat. Never leave your hat in a hot car or in prolonged direct sunlight — heat can shrink it so it no longer fits.
